Welcome Zahrah! 💜

I’m so so so excited to announce that FeminSTEM has employed it’s first intern… welcome Zahrah 💜 (LinkedIn)!

Here’s what she has to say to our community 💜:

“Hi everyone,

My name is Zahrah, and I am really excited to be joining the FeminStem team as a Digital & Engagement Intern. I am currently a Pharmaceutical Chemistry student, and am interested in finding ways to bridge creativity with science and communication. I am passionate about breaking down barriers and creating a safe space for women to make STEM more accessible.

Over the next few weeks, I will be helping with our social media, newsletters and events. I’m particularly excited to hear and share the inspiring stories that celebrate women from all walks of life making a difference in science and tech. Being a woman in a male-dominated field can be isolating, so being part of a community that can help us discuss our experiences, our challenges and celebrate each other’s wins is really exciting!

I am looking forward to learning, creating and contributing to projects that help engage our incredible FeminSTEM community💕”

#TechMums

I recently attended TedXDurham with my husband and some of the speakers there just left us so inspired and ready to go out and achieve all the things we wanted in life.

One of these speakers was Professor Sue Black.

Sue spoke about her journey of leaving school at 16, being a single mum of 3 by the age of 25, and overcoming all of life’s obstacles to achieve the success that she has today.

Sue has devoted so much of her energy to providing opportunities for women in the tech sector, including founding TechMums – an organisation working with disadvantages mums to teach them the skills needed to succeed in tech and IT.

Sue’s journey is a reminder to be the change you wish to see in the world, and never let your past determine your future. 💜

If you know a mum looking for a leg-up into tech, send her this newsletter and see if she can be part of #techmums.
