Introducing Amy…
Amy’s journey from A Levels to present day is such an important lesson in perseverance and determination. Here’s her story:
“I’ve always loved learning – maths, science, art, music, all of it. Choosing A-levels was tough, but I went with maths, physics, and history. I had always wanted to be a helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy but unfortunately a medical issue stopped that dream, and after disappointing A-level results, I felt lost. I took a year out, and decided to start fresh with a foundation year in Maths and Physics at Northumbria University; determined to not repeat my disappointing A-levels.
During Uni, I completed a placement at Nissan Motor Manufacturing, having originally applied for QA, I ended up with an offer for process engineering in engine assembly (which was definitely more my thing!). I loved it so much and stayed part-time while finishing my degree. Final year was undoubtedly my best, my dissertation focused on electrochromic devices, and after graduating with First Class Honours in Physics, I secured a graduate engineer role at Jatco UK, helping install a new production line in a brand-new factory.
Here I am, six years after not achieving my expected A-levels, working in a role I love with a First Class degree to my name.
My biggest lesson? Work hard, trust your instincts, and be unapologetically yourself.“
