Application Tips, Avoiding Burnout & Upcoming Webinar 💜

We’re halfway through January already! We wanted to share some important reminders on burnout, tips if you’re looking for a change of roles, and announcing our first webinar! Hope to see you all there 💜

New year, new job?

It’s a new year which might make you think about looking for that next opportunity, or just looking for a change of scenery. The job market might seem daunting at the minute, but lots of industries, like engineering, are booming and desperate for talented people.

If you’re struggling with your job applications, we wanted to share some important tips for approaching your search:

  • Quality over quantity: tailor your application (including CV!) to the job description – it will at least get you past the auto-filter companies use for key words!
  • Focus on “transferable skills”: problem-solving, stakeholder communication, data analysis, project ownership – they’re all important and you can take them with you to almost any role
  • Don’t self-reject: if you meet ~60–70% of the criteria, apply anyway (men often do!)
  • Track your applications: a simple spreadsheet reduces overwhelm, helps you spot patterns and shows you how much progress you’ve made

Career Tip ⭐️

Taking care of yourself

It’s so easy at the start of the year to feel pressure to do more than you did last year, and to get sucked back into old habits that lead you to burnout.

It’s important to remember small actions that can make a big difference to your mental health:

  • Set realistic daily goals: 3 priority tasks is MORE than enough
  • Create a “shutdown ritual” after work (brain dump anything on your mind, log off, close your notebook, short walk)
  • Use your leave – don’t leave it too long to take those holidays you carried over…
  • Normalise boundaries: you don’t need to be constantly available to be valuable

💜 A healthy career is a long-term project. You’re allowed to pace yourself.
