Her STEM Journey: Emily
This week’s STEMspiration we are highlighting Emily’s journey into infrastructure!
Emily didn’t start out in STEM, she actually studied Applied Theatre at Northumbria Uni! But now she’s working in infrastructure as a Social Value Manager for Morgan Sindall Infrastructure on the Northumberland Line project.
Emily is featured this week because she is proof and an important reminder that you don’t need a STEM degree to make a real difference in these industries. The soft skills she brings including communication, creativity, connecting with people, are just as important as technical knowledge. She’s also a great example of how passion, curiosity, and confidence can take you far, no matter what your background is.
Emily’s story shows that anyone can find their place in engineering and infrastructure, and that diverse backgrounds make these fields stronger.

Ada Lovelace Day
Tuesday 14th October is Ada Lovelace Day – an annual celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and maths. Ada Lovelace is often called the world’s first computer programmer. In the 1800s, she worked with Charles Babbage on his early mechanical computer, the “Analytical Engine,” and realised it could do far more than just calculations – it could follow patterns, process symbols, and even create music.
Ada’s legacy reminds us that imagination and innovation go hand in hand and that women have always been at the heart of technological progress.
Upcoming Events:
We have our next online meet-up THIS FRIDAY!! It’s a chance to connect closely with the community from anywhere. I think there’s only 1 or 2 spaces left so if you fancy it then get your tickets here.
Our next in-person meet-up will be held at Head of Steam on the Quayside. It’s an open space that has plenty of room for socialising between different groups! And you can even bring your dog 🙂
Tickets here >> October Meet Up
I hope to see you there 💜
